The State of New York certifies Backflow Testers. 

(NEWWA is the Certifying Body they approve.)

First you need to complete and pass Backflow Tester Training from a State approved course provider (see below), then usually the approved course provider will send your info to the New York State Department of Health where they will add you to their Licensed Backflow Tester Database at no cost. If you are certifying for the first time, you need to complete and pass an approved course and have at least 2 CEU's.

Who Certifies Backflow Testers in Texas? (These are Certifying Bodies)

The State of Texas certifies Backflow Testers.

First you need to complete and pass Backflow Tester Training from a State approved course provider (see below), then you'll send your info to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Cost: $111

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 years of work experience of:
  • Operating or maintaining a public drinking water system;
  • Installing or repairing residential, commercial, or industrial drinking water      treatment equipment;
  • Installing      or repairing lawn irrigation systems;
  • Performing      activities requiring a master or journeyman plumbing license;
  • Installing      or servicing fire suppression sprinkler systems and lines;
  • Operating      or maintaining a domestic wastewater treatment facility;
  • Performing      health inspections that requires a registered sanitarian; or
  • Performing      duties approved by the executive director

Applicants with a High School diploma or GED may substitute up to one year of experience with one year of college credit (32 semester hours) or 20 hours of approved training in addition to the required 40-hour backflow prevention assembly testing training course.

Until January 1, 2023, persons testing and repairing backflow prevention assemblies and backflow prevention devices shall be qualified to perform such work as demonstrated by possessing a certification or license from a local or state agency having legal authority or shall possess a certificate of completion of applicable vocational training acceptable to the owner.
